IVN Room

AL maintains a customized distance learning laboratory implementing the UMATS Interactive Video Network. Our IVN room is located on the first floor of the Administration Building, room 109. The standard classroom configuration accommodates 38 individuals for both classroom and off-network presentations.

The computer center of our IVN room consists of a VTEL LC5000 Codec with network ability, and a Canoga Perkins Fiber Optic Modem, which are housed in a soundproof control booth at the rear of the room. The control booth is also home to much of the equipment mentioned later on.

Video input sources include two wall mounted remote controlled Sony Cameras, a wall mounted Parker Vision CameraMan Presenter with Remote Control and AutoTracker, an Elmo 400 Document camera, Elmo Slide to Video projector, Scan Converter for Laptop presentations, VTEL Smart Board, and Sony Video Cassette Recorder.

Video output sources include two 61" Sony Color Rear Projection monitors installed at the front of the room to project local and remote video sources, a 32" Sony Color Monitor installed in the wall for the instructors view and a 13" Sony Color Monitor installed in the podium also for the instructors view.

A Samson Amplifier handles inbound audio delivered to five wall mounted Boston Acoustics Speakers. Outbound audio via two Biamp Gated Mixers and fourteen Audio-Technica UniPoint ceiling mounted microphones, one VTEL Omni Tabletop microphone at the podium and one microphone on the Auto Tracker, ensures clear and full audio coverage.

The system is designed for independent use by faculty and staff with system control through either the AMX Command Touch Panel in the control booth or Pen Pal Graphic Tablet at the podium. The choice being made with an A/B Switch located in the control booth. Also available are a wired keyboard and mouse in the control booth or a wireless IR keyboard at the podium. The Command Touch Panel and Pen Pal Tablet allow the user to make the video call, control computer, audio levels, and all local cameras and remote cameras if the remote system configuration allows.

As a stand alone (off-network) meeting room, it is equipped with a drop down projection screen, two white boards and a sound system. A 35mm slide projector is installed in the control booth to minimize sound interruption during presentations.

The Intel ProShare Video Conferencing or "IVN Jr.," is located in room 102 and provides point-to-point, desktop conferencing via the Internet.
