Greenhouse

The greenhouse is located at the southwest corner of the Appalachian Laboratory. It is approximately 4,000 sq. feet and consists of a head house, mechanical room and 3 individual zones for specialized research in such areas as plant growth, plant competition and plant diversity. Zone 1 is approximately 432 sq. feet, Zone 2 is approximately 648 sq. feet and Zone 3 is approximately 1,080 sq. feet. Each zone?s environmental condition is independently controlled to suit the researcher?s needs and requirements via computer-operated fans, shades and vents, etc. The 1,069 sq. foot head house is accessible by a pair of swinging doors from the greenhouse corridor. The computer system that controls the greenhouse is located here, as well as, a drying oven and soil sterilizer. The necessary materials for research experiments such as soil, sand, and gravel, including a wet area with a sink are also housed here. Two lockable cages provide storage space for field research equipment. The 224 sq. foot mechanical room houses the mechanical equipment necessary to run the greenhouse.
